Role Summary
The Debris Cleanup Volunteer is responsible for assisting in the safe and efficient removal of debris, such as fallen trees, rubble, and other obstructions, to facilitate access and safety in disaster-impacted communities. This role is crucial to restoring normalcy and creating safe conditions for residents and relief teams, working closely with other volunteers and following safety guidelines.
Key Responsibilities
- Debris Removal: Clear fallen trees, rubble, and other debris from roads, pathways, and affected properties to improve access and safety.
- Equipment Operation: Use tools and equipment, such as shovels, rakes, and wheelbarrows, following safety procedures and guidelines.
- Site Safety: Adhere to all safety protocols, including wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) and reporting hazards or unsafe conditions to the team lead.
- Coordination with Team: Collaborate with other volunteers and team members to prioritize and execute cleanup tasks effectively.
- Waste Disposal: Collect and dispose of debris in designated areas to maintain an organized and clean work environment.
Qualifications
- Physical fitness and stamina to handle demanding tasks in various weather conditions.
- Experience with basic hand tools and familiarity with safe handling procedures.
- Ability to work as part of a team, with strong communication and cooperation skills.
- Willingness to follow safety protocols, including wearing PPE (e.g., gloves, hard hats, and protective eyewear).
Working Conditions
This position involves physically strenuous work outdoors, often in disaster-affected and potentially hazardous environments. Volunteers may work irregular hours, including weekends, to meet urgent community recovery needs.
